Peafunk Designs
.. opened in November 2006 under the ownership of Brian and Martha Smith.  Both Brian and Martha were working in the corporate world at the time, but had always dreamed of owning their own business someday.  Someday came a little sooner than they had planned, when the opportunity to purchase a small shop in seaside Historic Wickford Village came along.
They quickly consulted with Martha’s younger sister, Amy Pesta, who had begun a line of hand crafted jewelry and other art pieces which she had been showing at various New England craft fairs as well as advertising on a web-site she had created called “Peafunk,” based on a high school nickname.  The three carved out a plan: Brian and Martha would own the store, they would showcase Amy’s pieces as their signature product line, use her already established web-site name, and Amy would run the store during the weekdays. Thus, Peafunk Designs was born! 

At just 112 square feet (not including the tiny backroom), with each wall made of a different material, the 3 faced the challenge of renovating the store to create something charming and inviting while maximizing space.

Today, Peafunk takes pride in its warm and cozy atmosphere.

A few months after the store opened, Martha decided to leave her corporate job to focus full time on the store, thereby allowing both sisters to work happily side by side, teaching each other skills learned from their opposite areas of experience (business and art) , but  still doing primarily what each enjoys most.   Brian keeps his hand in the mix through his weekend photography work which gets translated into beautiful and stylish framed photos, as well as photo calendars and coasters.

Over time, Peafunk has become known for its custom bridal and other special occasion orders.  Since then Peafunk has expanded to include other lines of jewelry as well as several lines of purses, lunch totes, and jewelry boxes.

And tucked into corners everywhere are little surprises: money soap, hand lotions, hand painted rocks, key chains, wine-charms.  Almost every week, something new appears at Peafunk!
