Peafunk opened in November 2006 under the ownership of Brian and Martha Smith. Both Brian and Martha were working in the corporate world at the time, but had always dreamed of owning their own business someday. Someday came a little sooner than they had planned, when the opportunity to purchase a small shop in seaside Historic Wickford Village came along. They quickly consulted with Martha’s younger sister, Amy Pesta, who had begun a line of hand crafted jewelry and other art pieces which she had been showing at various New England craft fairs as well as advertising on a web-site she had created called “Peafunk,” based on a high school nickname. The three carved out a plan: Brian and Martha would own the store, they would showcase Amy’s pieces as their signature product line, use her already established web-site name, and Amy would run the store during the weekdays. Thus, Peafunk Designs was born!
